The majority of her work is of an urban nature, depicting cityscapes and capturing scenes of urban life- moments of joy, solitude, love and despair. Her intimate images of urban life frequently blend Fine Art with Documentary and are often intriguing, incorporating a degree of ambiguity triggering thoughts and emotions in the viewer. Her urban prints can be found in hundreds of private collections around the world and a selection of her black and white work is currently installed at Newcastle Airport in the UK.

Image Analysis. This photo is by Ronya Galka from one of her famous shoots in London. This is one of his many photographs from this project which catches my attention. Ronya siad: "Whenever I shoot around some very obvious tourist attractions or very well known places of interest, I like to focus on the peripheral elements in those locations. In this shot it would have been very easy to focus on Big Ben or the lions at Trafalgar Square but instead I opted to depict the two guys having a little rest instead with the famous landmarks serving as the perfect backdrop for my scene.

Successful commercial photographer, Nick Turpin, has captured a shot that has really informed my work and has inspired me to want to experiment new techniques with my work.

As you can see in the image above, it first appears to look like a multiple motion photograph, when in actuality it is three very similarly dressed boys jumping off the side, perfectly width apart from one another. The image captures motion, something in which I have attempted to perform in my photography. As you can see below, with the subject sweeping the sand into the air, I have taken influence from Turpins work to try this affect myself in a one shot image.

Street Scene, Trafalgar Square, London. IntuitivelyTurpin has set up the image to portray the subject of the can to appear to have its product splash high into the air, where in actual fact it is a play on the eye by using distance and illusion to create the effect shown in the image above. The image is created to perfectly align the opening of the can to the water fountain, yet making this seem so effortlessly as though it was captured by accident through the composition of the persona and the surroundings of the environment.

I particularly enjoy this image created by Turpin due to the effortlessly creative structure. Turpin is known for his perfectly timed and composed images, yet this particular image stood out the most for me because it is so simple yet effective and satisfying to the human eye, through representation of a fizzy can and a powerful water fountain.

Street Photography Workshops UK The particular shot above by Galka is one that informs my own work through the colour scheme and composition of subject. For aspiring street photographers specifically I would say get yourself a comfortable pair of walking boots or trainers, pack an umbrella and get ready to walk through the streets of your city for hours and hours on end.

Ronya has been one of my favorite street photographers for several years now. Her work consistently shows intelligence, humanity and a lively sense of humor. Great article! A very inspiring page for beginners.

The depth of field used creates a natural atmosphere and enhances her photographs, this is a nice technique for candid photography and shows that Ronya Galka embraces an unstructured approach to photography. Search for:. Share this: Twitter Facebook. Like Loading
